The Erdtree still stands, but its blessings have waned. The demigods, children of Queen Marika, now war for control of the shattered shards of the Elden Ring, known as Great Runes. The Roundtable Hold serves as a hub for the Tarnished, who are guided by the Two Fingers to restore the Elden Ring and become Elden Lord. The story reveals that Marika's faith is central to the world, with churches and monuments dedicated to her and the Golden Order scattered throughout the land.

In Their Own Story

The narrative begins with the Wylder waking in the Roundtable Hold after fleeing darkness and confronting the Fell Omen. Greeted by the Priestess, he learns of the mission to defeat the Nightlords. He joins allies like Guardian, Ironeye, Raider, Recluse, and Executor, each with unique backstories known as Remembrances that influence endings. A pivotal moment occurs when the group discovers a magic pocketwatch, revealing the Priestess is actually the dagger-wielding Duchess. After defeating four Nightlords, the Hold crumbles as Heolstor the Night Aspect, the Primordial Night manifested, reveals himself. The game features multiple endings: the Endless Night ending (Ironeye kills the figure), New Night ending (Wylder rebirths as Heolstor), Night of Love (Recluse comforts a child made from the Night), and Dawn (restoring the Lands Between to its post-Shattering state).
