Ranni was born into the Carian Royal Family, but her life changed when her father, Radagon, left Queen Rennala to become King Consort to Queen Marika. To escape the Greater Will's control, Ranni plotted the Night of the Black Knives. She orchestrated the theft of the Rune of Death, which was then used by the Black Knife Assassins to forge slivers into multiple Black Knives; one killed Godwyn the Golden in soul only, while another killed her own physical body, turning Godwyn into an undead Prince of Death and binding her spirit to a doll modeled after her mentor. Her original body was found as a charred and lifeless corpse, bearing a curse mark from Destined Death. This act triggered Marika to shatter the Elden Ring, starting the Shattering war. Ranni's ultimate goal is to take the Elden Ring away from the Lands Between, establishing an Age of Stars where she and her consort rule from afar, retaining its power while ending the Greater Will's interference in mortal lives.
