When he realized the current Tarnished could succeed where others failed, Gideon abandoned his role as steward. He believed that only one who understands all secrets should rule the fractured world. This betrayal stems from a desire to control the restoration of order rather than submit to it, viewing himself as the only worthy candidate for Elden Lord.
